Chag-tong Chen-tong Centre welcomes everyone in search of the methods to develop the good heart, a meaningful happy life, any age, from all cultures, with interest in Buddhism or not, whom wish to engage within a harmonious and supportive community of practioners.
Chag-tong Chen-tong (the name given to us by Lama Zopa Rinpoche) translates as 1000 arm 1000 eye Compassionate eyed seeing one ... the Buddha of Compassion. The many number of arms and eyes represents the ability to see the needs, and to be of benefit to many countless sentient beings simultaneously, to relieve their suffering, and bring them to Enlightenment as quickly as possible. The development of the good heart, loving kindness, bodhichitta, caring for others more than ones self, is our primary job. Methods to transform the mind and develop these qualities, which is where all peace and happiness originates, is our core activity at the Centre. We have hosted many visiting Tibetan and western teachers to compliment and enrich our program and will continue to do so until we have the fortune to host a resident teacher for Chag-tong Chen-tong in time to come. Our visiting teachers also offer event opportunities at Schools and Community Centres, Prison Facility and availability of Public Talks outside of the Centre venue. Chag-tong Chen-tong runs a weekly program in central Hobart in a shared facility venue. Dr Sonam Takchoe has kindly supported Chagtong Chentong teaching program for many years, teaching on a regular bi-monthly schedule. http://fcms.its.utas.edu.au/arts/philosophy/pagedetails.asp?lpersonId=2144 We host the opportunity for long and short retreats and ongoing education and study programs from introductory level to advanced interest. A bookshop provides access to many Buddhist titles and implements and gifts. A Library facility is available for financial members of the Centre which incorporates a book sponsorship program to build up our stock and to be able offer titles to the Public Libraries in Tasmania. |
